Forks in the road
Road of many forks
My soul, a butterfly cloud,
rests wings in stillness
~Meegan Simpson-Cookeยฉ2025

I was playing around with digital art making a couple years ago and had fun with this image. This creative play reminded me about how important nature is to my mental health. The process of therapeutic art connects me to images, and symbols that encourage self-understanding.
Through reflective writing and art making, I can learn about my internal and external worlds, which hold the threads to what mental health recovery means to me.
Life bubbles along in the external world and yet underneath we have another creative world which includes our thoughts, mental images and dreams. We are constantly perceiving and trying to make sense of life. We need ways to keep in touch with our internal world, to observe it, to tend to its needs, just like we tend to our external life. Some people make art, write poems, dance, make music, connect with others and, in these ways, explore and express what is happening inside.

How do you use creativity to gain insight into your experience?
Do you remember your dreams and do they give clues in their content and imagery to what is happening in your life?

Next week will be the last regular post I make on this blog. I am needing to turn my attention and energy towards new projects. However I will continue posting once in awhile to update you on my recovery and writing. I am so thankful for all of you who have helped support me through reading this blog๐
May you use your creativity to dialogue with what is going on inside. See if you can find images, metaphors, and any guidance that will help guide your mental health journey. With care and kindness, Meegan

Your blog is packed with beauty and wisdom. Your haiku is stunning as is your art. I love the symbols you have used to express so much . Your message for dream contemplation and creative acts which can feed awareness, and enhance dialogue with our inner and outer selves is so significant as the encouragement to pay attention to symbols and metaphors which can lead us to deeper meaning.
Beautiful Blog!
with love, admiration and respect~
